Script Draft

*Introduction music plays*
Interviewer: Hello, Jordan! How are you?
Fizer: Great, what about you?
Interviewer: Great, thank you! So we’re here today to discuss what it is you go to college for, can you remind us what that is again?
Fizer: Yes, I go to Arizona State University and I am currently majoring in Business Communications as I plan to work my way up into a bigger major as I go through many endeavors in the W.P. Carey Business School of Arizona State University.
Interviewer: So how would you rate your experience at the business school of Arizona State University, or how would you say that it has treated you?
Fizer: It’s actually been everything I expected but even more. It is not only very difficult and time consuming, but all in all it is a very humbling experience as you realize more and more how valuable college is. I get asked what I’m doing with my life and as soon as I tell people, “I go to Arizona State University” their eyes light up and you can tell they appreciate what you are doing and how greatly they respect students that are in college. It really humbles you and reminds you more and more everyday of how not only how important college is, but how many people would love to be where you are so that you must treat it greatly.
*background music plays*
Interviewer: Yes indeed, students can easily forget of how important college is to them and how lucky they are to be there. I, myself greatly believe that whether you look at schools within college like the W.P. Carey School of Business or the whole university of Arizona State University that there is always one theme, deep meaning that students lack to recognize which is the importance and value of it. I can see that you do appreciate it but there is a steady growing rate of kids who don’t value college and are dropping out or just not taking it seriously at all while they focus on the party scenes instead of the classrooms.
Fizer: I totally agree. I, myself can’t say that I don’t party at all but I can honestly say that I do not let it take over my free time or worries like I see with most people. I find all of these parties and late-night, weekend get-togethers detrimental to not only the well-being of the younger generation but their education as well. You and I both know we can’t stop it but it’s great to see someone who values education as much as me and is worried about the people of today having all these distractions.
Interviewer: So, let’s be more specific. How would you say you feel about the W.P. Carey School of Business and its importance? I, for one, think that since it is ranked among the best business schools in the WORLD that it should be viewed as a very important business school in not only America but the whole world and be recognized as a center of business commerce.
Fizer: That is exactly how I feel. Most people tend to place the whole university of Arizona State into the class of average schools and tend to overlook what the university really possesses. Yes, we are speaking upon the W.P. Carey School of Business but there are many things as well that are great. When it comes to the business school though, it is vital to Arizona State University and what they offer because it brings in tens of thousands of students yearly, as well as graduates thousands. It is one of the top universities in the world when it comes to the success that their students have after graduation in attaining a job of some sort. Not only that, but they have great success in starting salaries as well, which of course, will attract a lot of students because as most people say, money makes the world go around.
Interviewer: Very great points you make, but what would have to be your down-right favorite thing about the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University?
Fizer: My absolute favorite thing at the school after attending one semester would have to be the people for sure. I can’t say either the students or faculty, because I love both. The people here are so outgoing as well as helpful. I have been saved on numerous occasions where I was in need of certain help in a class or two and complete strangers at school would offer it to me as well as some professors and assistants. I love the faculty as well because of the amazing organizational skills they have here when it comes to putting everything together. Not only that but there, so to say, “Customer service” even though it’s service to students. You only find yourself waiting in long lines on certain busy days during the busy hours and even at that, they will have numerous people waiting to help and it isn’t one of those, go to one booth, then go to a different section to get help type of deals. You go to one place and one place only for whatever it is you are having problems with and they help you with it until the problem or dispute is solved. The counselors are amazing as well. I actually have a personal counselor who takes time out of her days to occasionally give me a phone call just to ask and wonder about how I’m doing not only with school, but life itself and to offer counseling whenever I need it. I have met with my counselor many times and she is amazing as well as many other counselors I have met with to help me with certain things.
Interviewer: To sum things up, the W.P. Carey School of Business is very vital to students and non-students as well pursuing to take full of advantage of what people call, “The American Dream”. They offer outstanding help with everything you might have trouble with, amazing courses and classes to help you attain the skills you need to make it in the business world, and amazing classroom environments that provide any business student more than the required amount of experience they would need to have in the business field. I thank you for your time, Jordan.
Fizer: I thank you as well!

ASU Reacts: Mitt Romney's Loss

Interviewee (Me): Hello, Muhannad. How would you say you felt about this year's presidential election and it's outcomes?
Muhannad: I, being an Obama fan, was very pleased with the results and I am excited to see what these next four years will bring us.
Interviewee: So, as you and I sat down to listen to this audio article about some of the things that Mitt Romney did wrong that resulted in his loss, how did you feel?
Muhannad: I felt as if they were right on point for the most part because for the first time ever I can say that I truly followed both president's campaigns closely and I could honestly agree with most of the facts and opinions stated in the NPR.
Interviewee: Would you agree with the little situation in Michigan in which Governor Romney had seemed to be doing a little too much and reaching out of his, so to say, expertise.
Muhannad: Yes, yes indeed. He really should have been more relaxed. Even though it is his job to put on the most positive and likeable performance to earn votes, being himself in that situation would've helped a lot more.
Interviewee: What about with the patient in the hospital?
Muhannad: Now that, that was great. A great show of homage and respect coming from Governor Mitt Romney.
Interviewee: How would you rate or critique that article?
Muhannad: It was great and well-rounded and the only thing I would change is not using so many specific examples and leaning more towards the bigger picture in his campaign.
Interviewee: Thank you for your time!

Genre Analysis: 'Let Mit Be Mit': But Who Was He?

When you listen to this audio article you automatically put it into the genre of Politics and such. The general audience for this article is basically any American citizen interested in the outcome of this year's Presidential Election or more specifically people interested in Politics and what exactly Mitt Romney did wrong in his campaign to ultimately end up coming short of his goal of becoming the United States next president. When it comes to the content in this article, as previously stated, the author talked about how Mitt Romney made many little mistakes. He didn't really make any major mistakes and his campaign was just fine, but there were moments when the little details were overlooked by him and certain states just lost their interest in him which ultimately resulted in him losing many electoral colleges' votes because he did not attain the majority vote in some important states. One example would be in Michigan when Mitt Romney started over-thinking all of the statements he made and would say things such as, "the trees are just fine here" and it left some of his supporters confused on where he was going with this campaign and planned policies. Another example would be one great thing that he did and that was when he met with a Leukaemia  patient in dying health and everyone related back to that and it warmed people's hearts. All in all, this was a great article that really got to the point and gave great details. It would definitely be in the Political Genre.

I'm thinking about doing my project on:
-Math majors
-Film Majors
-Architecture Majors

Project 2 Reflection: Mediocre

To start off, I think the thing I did very well was handling great difficulties outside of school. I had sadly gotten in a very brutal car accident in which i suffered an injury to my head (concussion) and fingers (sprains) due to the collision and air bags. It was hard but I am proud to say that I am past my first humongous obstacle in college as I know there will be more. Not only did I do this well but my time management was great as well. Due to my concussion, there would often be days where I would just sit there and could think of nothing as my head throbbed, but the days my brain would function perfectly normal I took full advantage and grabbed my laptop and started working viciously! I will alter my writing process in the sense of lengthening my ideas, and not just being so single-minded when it comes to my details. I came up short on the word count as I could only get 1600 words so next time whenever it is needed, I'll make sure to meet that criteria. I really  felt as though I crafted a strong evaluation because it all simply made sense. I will apply this outside in college in everyday situations because I will be more critical in evaluating anything and everything as well the criteria I go by when making those evaluations.

English Project #2

(ASU)

When a person is around the area known as Memorial Union at Arizona State University, they can sense all kinds of mixed emotions floating around in the traffic of hundreds of students When a person is around the area known as Memorial Union at Arizona State University, they can sense all kinds of mixed emotions floating around in the traffic of hundreds of students. Especially when it comes to the main main floor of the MU (what all the students refer to it as, short for Memorial Union) you can sense urgency and anxiety as well of these college students just looking for their way in life and looking to produce great futures for themselves. Basically, the Memorial Union of Arizona State University is a great environment to be around whether you are or aren’t a student because there are so many things you can do in and out of it as well as enjoying the campus of the university. Not only that, but it is very vital to the everyday lives of many students that attend Arizona State University. The criteria for being a well-placed environment, being accessible for everyone, and great to relax at is what would happen if this place were to be taken from everyone who uses it? How would people feel? Well in 2007, on November 1st a large fire was created by someone leaving something in the stove of the basement of the Memorial Union causing a large breakout fire to happen and for everyone to be evacuated
 (AZ Central).
After this, students, teachers, and normal by passers felt the heat and realized how much the Memorial Union was really missed. People went on strikes to get it fixed quicker and eventually Arizona State University itself felt the heat and felt compelled to get the Memorial Union fixed as soon as possible. Nine months and Fifty-three million dollars later, the Memorial Union was restored (Hermann). Not only that but it was provided with better technology and all kinds of new features within the building. The biggest achievement, though was everyone realizing how vital the Memorial Union at Arizona State University was important for everyone, all the way from a student having a hard time finishing out their senior year to an innocent bum looking for somewhere to relax without being heckled. The Memorial Union of Arizona State University is vital to students, teachers, and everyone who visits and it is a perfect place to go to relax and do anything else of that nature.

#1- Taco Bell Area
The first are to be observed is the area where they have the fast food restaurant Taco Bell. This area is highly important because it goes to show that it really doesn’t matter whether you are a student, a visitor, or even a teacher you can enjoy the Memorial Union of Arizona Status University. According to the work and examination notes of an ASU student, teachers are seen coming into Taco Bell to eat in large groups at certain times of the day and it is very interesting to see that most only go to Taco Bell (Al-Khafaji). One might attribute it to Taco Bell’s three dollar deal in which you have a choice of four different sandwiches, a bag of Dorritos chips, and a medium drink making it a very affordable lunch for everyone. Most people complain about the high prices at the food places at ASU but really, it just takes a little bit of searching if you are trying to save money in the process of staying at campus to eat. Just ask the professors, most are seen eating at Taco Bell and most have already had the college experience in their lives. Not only can anyone go here for cheaper food, but there is also a Wells Fargo made especially for students and to help them with all the expenses that they have throughout their college careers. Non-students can use the Wells Fargo as well of course which goes to show how accessible this part of the MU is for everybody. Also there is an exit that goes right out to the W.P. Carey Business School which just so happens to have tens of thousands of students attending the school within Arizona State University. If one puts all of these factors together not only do they meet the criteria of a place that can subsume anyone and please them, but it meets the criteria perfectly.

#2- Memorial Union Hall
This spot isn’t necessarily a specific spot but merely a long hall that goes through the Memorial Union at Arizona State University. This hall emphasizes the size, length, and capacity within the Memorial Union and all of its many features. Going down the hall you notice the Provisions on Demand Market, better known as the P.O.D. Market within the many students and visitors of the university. At this market you can find just about any type of necessities that you may need during a normal day at college. Anything from snacks to band aids, clothing to drinks, and etc. you will find at this market. This not only makes for a great spot but it makes the Memorial Union that much more usable. Not only the Provisions on Demand Market, but a sushi place named AFC is located there in which many people love to go to so that they can fulfill their sushi cravings and needs. Most students love the simplicity of AFC and how it’s located in a neat, compacted area and it’s easy to get food to go (Al-Khafaji). On top of those spots, there is a Sun Devil Dining spot in which students can pay to go eat, or if they have signed up for a game plan, they can go enjoy an all you can eat buffet as they get their meal(s) for the day. On top of that there are seats and spots to relax everywhere around so one can be with many friends at once and could be doing anything from relaxing and eating, to going over notes with friends with everyone’s laptops. It really is a well put together, long hall with many necessities around as well as lots of places to hang out around. All these factors put together and one has a spot where can they do whatever they like, student or not.

#3- Scoular Study
This area is the Scoular Study area in which students, teachers, visitors, and even the occasional bums every once in a while. What it provides for everyone is a place to relax, study, and wi-fi! Not only that but even an ATM at the corner, just in case a person might need some money. This area has a very relaxed mood to it for anybody looking to take a break from their day and maybe escape the work load that comes with being a college student. The Scoular Study Area is very important to kids in the sense that they need this area whenever they must study for all of their classes and not only that but there are many outlets to charge laptops, phones, and etc. with. When passing by this area one notices all of the people that are there mostly just relaxed looking to stop working for a decent change, and sometimes you’ll spot a random bum or two only because the campus is a public campus. All of that aside, it is a great area in a great part of Arizona State University. On average, thousands of people go in and out of the Memorial Union at Arizona State University every day (Hermann). If one thinks about this fact, one can realize how vital the placement of everything and convenience is to attract people into the building. Not only attract the people to the building, but to keep them coming back as well. This specific hall will always bring students back at least because it’s a great shortcut through everything that is air conditioned and contains places to eat as well. It definitely meets the criteria set forth for a place to attract all kinds of people.

#4- Food Court
This area could arguably be the biggest and most visited area would be the food court. Not only are there bathrooms placed there conveniently for anyone in need, but there are the following food locations: Starbucks Coffee, Qdoba Mexican Grill, The Fresh Fix, Extreme Pita, and Papa Johns Pizza. This area not only provides variety when it comes to food but as the other spots do as well, it provides a place to relax. As you can tell, it is a reoccurring theme to have places for people to just relax and put their work load on hold for a minor part of their respective days. It is specifically located on a level just a little higher than everyone else and one must go up stairs to go to so the view is much like looking over everyone while you are in this area. It is greatly ventilated and has many exits/entrances. Not only that, but the Lower Level of the Memorial Union is located right under where one can go to enjoy plenty of things like food as well, bowling, ping pong, pool, and etc. This spot is in the middle of everything in the Memorial Union and the Memorial Union is basically located in the middle of the Arizona State Tempe Campus which makes everything around easily accessible and just a short walk away. With that being said, all of these locations meet the criteria of being accessible by anyone and everyone, fulfilling the needs of students, and being great places to just relax and enjoy a break at or whatever one wishes to do.

Research Sources: Memorial Union

1st Source: http://search.proquest.com.ezproxy1.lib.asu.edu/docview/239097667
The topic of this source was the fire back in November of 2007 that occurred in the Memorial Union. I really want to explore this topic for this assignment because I never knew this fire had occurred and not only do I find it interesting, but I want to know how people felt not having a Memorial Union at the time. I will evaluate this topic by looking at all the factors attributed to this fire in this newspaper article. This article was basically just about the fire that occurred in the memorial union in 2007 and how it cost $53,000,000 to fix and rebuild everything. The author was William Hermann and it was 5 pages long.
2nd Source: http://search.proquest.com.ezproxy1.lib.asu.edu/docview/207460949
The topic of this is the top selling music within the Memorial Union at ASU and I am looking into this just to see how important the MU really is at ASU. This article was basically about the Top 10 selling music in the Memorial Union. I only looked at this article to realize truly how big the MU is and how it contains so many different things to the point they rank the music sold there. It was published by the Phoenix New Times, Issue 227, Volume 32.
3rd Source: http://search.proquest.com.ezproxy1.lib.asu.edu/docview/1020126687/abstract?accountid=4485
The topic of this thesis was basically about the experience of two professors at ASU and I'm looking into it just to see if it ties back to the MU and if not how these teachers experiences were at ASU. This thesis talked about many different things all the way from race influence to tasks. I didn't really find it helpful but I couldn't find any books on the MU or really any scholarly articles just diagrams on certain parts of the building. It was written by Carrie Deaken and she wrote it while at NAU.

My plan for this project is to use the Memorial Union as my location. This is only because I am so familiar with it and I recognize all of the locations in there and all of their functions. I really don't know much else about other locations.

Evaluation: NBA 2K12

Most sports video game fans know that NBA 2K13 has already come out, but I am one of the misfortunate people that has not been able to get it yet so I shall give my analysis on last year's 2K game, NBA 2K12. Don't get me wrong, this game is amazing on all levels of gaming, realism, and sports simulation and is very well-rounded. As soon as you turn the game on you are given an idea of what it is about, and that is the feature to play the historical players with the players of today. (LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, etc.)
The audience created for this game was obviously basketball fans, and specifically NBA fans. One may not necessarily watch the NBA as much if you buy the game out in a different country, but it is primarily based around the 30 basketball teams in the National Basketball Association and it's 400+ players. Not only that but it's audience is any type of gamer, hardcore or rookie because it's one of those games that you can just pick right up, look at the controls for a minute, and be able to play right away because it really is simple for the rookies. Not only that, but the game has advanced moves that the hardcore users can pull off as well, and at the end of the day it benefits both types of gamers because they both get those two or three points when they make a basket!
I also think that the game provides you with many different ways to play and several different game modes. One of the game modes is called My Player. This is where the gamer can create their own player and go through a whole NBA career dealing the NBA Draft, talking to managers, talking to reporters, dealing with trades, and everything else that comes with being an NBA player. Another great mode is the Legends Mode where you get to play with legendary, historic players from the NBA/ABA and put them up against players of today or mix and match players to play against each other.
At the end of the day, NBA 2K12 is a great game for any basketball fan to pick right up and get into. Not only that, but you will playing the game all season long trying to copy what you saw your favorite player do, or even worrying about your own NBA career. It's a game you'll want to play year-round.

Reflection: 1st Project of English 101

I thought that for my 1st project in all of college I did fairly well and didn't procrastinate much at all. That thought lasted in my head until today when i finally got my laptop back from being fixed and opened it up to the blackboard only to realize that for the first time something was due on Friday, instead of Sunday and it just happened to be the biggest assignment we have had in class all year, lucky me. It is nowhere near being the professor's fault at all and I take full responsibility for not checking up on when it was due more often. I will now be getting deducted two letter grades on whatever grade that I do get and so unfortunately, I will not be getting a very good grade. But, I won't come out with this experience angry or regretful. Instead, I will take this as a reality check and realize that it is time for me to get very, very serious with every single class that I have in college and put school above everything. No more procrastination and no more BS'ing (excuse the language). My week will probably ruined to due to my ignorance and mistake but I will bounce back a much better, and more determined student. What I really liked about this project was being put into groups where we send eachother feedback online because we are all very intelligent students and I honestly found every piece of editing that my peers did for me useful. I don't really like the fact that everything is becoming online (like most people) but this is one of first, few things that I have liked that combine online interaction with the classroom. It is great and I would have no complaints if we were to use it again on our next project. It not only gives you feedback but it just simply keeps you writing and practice makes perfect! I did not really dislike anything other than my own mistakes, and I feel that this project was layed out very well, due to a very great professor of course!

Waleed Al-Khafaji Magazine Analysis

An Analysis of a Magazine Cover: Sports Illustrated Cover

At first glance of the 2006, October issue of Sports Illustrated you see (of course) players of some sort posing to make some type of statement. These players happen to be in the NBA and are (from left to right) LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Dwyane Wade. If you really look closer into the cover you realize it gives you a warm, welcoming feeling of wanting to buy the magazine and find out all about this self-proclaimed "New Era". Why are all players smiling? Why is it the "New Era" at that time? It makes you want to read about not only that, but all the other little trinkets of information surrounding these three fantastic players.
Everyone is smiling to let you know that these players are happy and excited to be part of a new era of younger players taking over and dominating the league. The title right under lets you know that it's time for these young players to take things seriously and for Carmelo and them to step their game up as they slowly become the faces of the league.
All the other bits of information surrounding the players show that this is an NBA edition to get the fans ready for the upcoming season. Right under that NBA Preview title it gives you an even better reason to reach to the magazine and start reading as they offer you almost 40 pages of scouting report, which is basically the scoop on certain aspects of players and their respective teams to provide you with information you may not know and bold predictions on who could be having a big season. Not only does it cover basketball but it being an October edition means that it was time for the MLB playoffs as they tell you about a team that's coming in hot into the playoffs.
This magazine is basically perfect for any basketball fan that knows anything about the NBA because it not only provides you with information about the most popular players that everyone knows, but also inside information and details for the die-hard fans or maybe just the casual fans who want to catch up on their basketball and know how to talk smack when the basketball season arrives. Basically, this magazine is for anyone who enjoys the sport of basketball.

Analysis of a Writing: Jones-Drew Ends 38-day Holdout

In an article for sportsillustrated.cnn.com titled Jones-Drew Ends 38-day Holdout the writer informs his readers about the current contract disputation going on with Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew and his organization. Maurice is one of the top running backs in the Nation Football League and he lead the league last year in rushing yards, but he feels he is very under-paid. The top running backs in the league get payed $10 million and up while he gets payed a measly $4.45 million this upcoming season. He held out for 38 days and eventually realized that it was too much of a distraction for the organization and with one week left before the regular season starts, it was time to come back.
The writer wrote this article for only one reason, and that was to inform sports fans, football fans, and specifically Jaguar fans about their franchise player finally coming back. The writer lets the reader know all of the details with the events before-hand and now with the contract disputation. Giving great reasoning, facts, and quotes from people around the situation and Maurice himself. He knows his audience and he knows exactly what they need and what questions need to be answered.
While reading this article I found it very easy to read and understand, and it flowed greatly and got to the point. It answered all of a fan's (like myself) questions. It wasn't too short and it left you with an excited feeling to see how great this amazing player might do and how he might handle not doing anything with his team for about 40 days. I would reccommend reading this article if you are a football fan and really know your players.
