ASU Reacts: Mitt Romney's Loss

Interviewee (Me): Hello, Muhannad. How would you say you felt about this year's presidential election and it's outcomes?
Muhannad: I, being an Obama fan, was very pleased with the results and I am excited to see what these next four years will bring us.
Interviewee: So, as you and I sat down to listen to this audio article about some of the things that Mitt Romney did wrong that resulted in his loss, how did you feel?
Muhannad: I felt as if they were right on point for the most part because for the first time ever I can say that I truly followed both president's campaigns closely and I could honestly agree with most of the facts and opinions stated in the NPR.
Interviewee: Would you agree with the little situation in Michigan in which Governor Romney had seemed to be doing a little too much and reaching out of his, so to say, expertise.
Muhannad: Yes, yes indeed. He really should have been more relaxed. Even though it is his job to put on the most positive and likeable performance to earn votes, being himself in that situation would've helped a lot more.
Interviewee: What about with the patient in the hospital?
Muhannad: Now that, that was great. A great show of homage and respect coming from Governor Mitt Romney.
Interviewee: How would you rate or critique that article?
Muhannad: It was great and well-rounded and the only thing I would change is not using so many specific examples and leaning more towards the bigger picture in his campaign.
Interviewee: Thank you for your time!

Genre Analysis: 'Let Mit Be Mit': But Who Was He?

When you listen to this audio article you automatically put it into the genre of Politics and such. The general audience for this article is basically any American citizen interested in the outcome of this year's Presidential Election or more specifically people interested in Politics and what exactly Mitt Romney did wrong in his campaign to ultimately end up coming short of his goal of becoming the United States next president. When it comes to the content in this article, as previously stated, the author talked about how Mitt Romney made many little mistakes. He didn't really make any major mistakes and his campaign was just fine, but there were moments when the little details were overlooked by him and certain states just lost their interest in him which ultimately resulted in him losing many electoral colleges' votes because he did not attain the majority vote in some important states. One example would be in Michigan when Mitt Romney started over-thinking all of the statements he made and would say things such as, "the trees are just fine here" and it left some of his supporters confused on where he was going with this campaign and planned policies. Another example would be one great thing that he did and that was when he met with a Leukaemia  patient in dying health and everyone related back to that and it warmed people's hearts. All in all, this was a great article that really got to the point and gave great details. It would definitely be in the Political Genre.

Project 2 Reflection: Mediocre

To start off, I think the thing I did very well was handling great difficulties outside of school. I had sadly gotten in a very brutal car accident in which i suffered an injury to my head (concussion) and fingers (sprains) due to the collision and air bags. It was hard but I am proud to say that I am past my first humongous obstacle in college as I know there will be more. Not only did I do this well but my time management was great as well. Due to my concussion, there would often be days where I would just sit there and could think of nothing as my head throbbed, but the days my brain would function perfectly normal I took full advantage and grabbed my laptop and started working viciously! I will alter my writing process in the sense of lengthening my ideas, and not just being so single-minded when it comes to my details. I came up short on the word count as I could only get 1600 words so next time whenever it is needed, I'll make sure to meet that criteria. I really  felt as though I crafted a strong evaluation because it all simply made sense. I will apply this outside in college in everyday situations because I will be more critical in evaluating anything and everything as well the criteria I go by when making those evaluations.

English Project #2

(ASU)

When a person is around the area known as Memorial Union at Arizona State University, they can sense all kinds of mixed emotions floating around in the traffic of hundreds of students When a person is around the area known as Memorial Union at Arizona State University, they can sense all kinds of mixed emotions floating around in the traffic of hundreds of students. Especially when it comes to the main main floor of the MU (what all the students refer to it as, short for Memorial Union) you can sense urgency and anxiety as well of these college students just looking for their way in life and looking to produce great futures for themselves. Basically, the Memorial Union of Arizona State University is a great environment to be around whether you are or aren’t a student because there are so many things you can do in and out of it as well as enjoying the campus of the university. Not only that, but it is very vital to the everyday lives of many students that attend Arizona State University. The criteria for being a well-placed environment, being accessible for everyone, and great to relax at is what would happen if this place were to be taken from everyone who uses it? How would people feel? Well in 2007, on November 1st a large fire was created by someone leaving something in the stove of the basement of the Memorial Union causing a large breakout fire to happen and for everyone to be evacuated
 (AZ Central).
After this, students, teachers, and normal by passers felt the heat and realized how much the Memorial Union was really missed. People went on strikes to get it fixed quicker and eventually Arizona State University itself felt the heat and felt compelled to get the Memorial Union fixed as soon as possible. Nine months and Fifty-three million dollars later, the Memorial Union was restored (Hermann). Not only that but it was provided with better technology and all kinds of new features within the building. The biggest achievement, though was everyone realizing how vital the Memorial Union at Arizona State University was important for everyone, all the way from a student having a hard time finishing out their senior year to an innocent bum looking for somewhere to relax without being heckled. The Memorial Union of Arizona State University is vital to students, teachers, and everyone who visits and it is a perfect place to go to relax and do anything else of that nature.

#1- Taco Bell Area
The first are to be observed is the area where they have the fast food restaurant Taco Bell. This area is highly important because it goes to show that it really doesn’t matter whether you are a student, a visitor, or even a teacher you can enjoy the Memorial Union of Arizona Status University. According to the work and examination notes of an ASU student, teachers are seen coming into Taco Bell to eat in large groups at certain times of the day and it is very interesting to see that most only go to Taco Bell (Al-Khafaji). One might attribute it to Taco Bell’s three dollar deal in which you have a choice of four different sandwiches, a bag of Dorritos chips, and a medium drink making it a very affordable lunch for everyone. Most people complain about the high prices at the food places at ASU but really, it just takes a little bit of searching if you are trying to save money in the process of staying at campus to eat. Just ask the professors, most are seen eating at Taco Bell and most have already had the college experience in their lives. Not only can anyone go here for cheaper food, but there is also a Wells Fargo made especially for students and to help them with all the expenses that they have throughout their college careers. Non-students can use the Wells Fargo as well of course which goes to show how accessible this part of the MU is for everybody. Also there is an exit that goes right out to the W.P. Carey Business School which just so happens to have tens of thousands of students attending the school within Arizona State University. If one puts all of these factors together not only do they meet the criteria of a place that can subsume anyone and please them, but it meets the criteria perfectly.

#2- Memorial Union Hall
This spot isn’t necessarily a specific spot but merely a long hall that goes through the Memorial Union at Arizona State University. This hall emphasizes the size, length, and capacity within the Memorial Union and all of its many features. Going down the hall you notice the Provisions on Demand Market, better known as the P.O.D. Market within the many students and visitors of the university. At this market you can find just about any type of necessities that you may need during a normal day at college. Anything from snacks to band aids, clothing to drinks, and etc. you will find at this market. This not only makes for a great spot but it makes the Memorial Union that much more usable. Not only the Provisions on Demand Market, but a sushi place named AFC is located there in which many people love to go to so that they can fulfill their sushi cravings and needs. Most students love the simplicity of AFC and how it’s located in a neat, compacted area and it’s easy to get food to go (Al-Khafaji). On top of those spots, there is a Sun Devil Dining spot in which students can pay to go eat, or if they have signed up for a game plan, they can go enjoy an all you can eat buffet as they get their meal(s) for the day. On top of that there are seats and spots to relax everywhere around so one can be with many friends at once and could be doing anything from relaxing and eating, to going over notes with friends with everyone’s laptops. It really is a well put together, long hall with many necessities around as well as lots of places to hang out around. All these factors put together and one has a spot where can they do whatever they like, student or not.

#3- Scoular Study
This area is the Scoular Study area in which students, teachers, visitors, and even the occasional bums every once in a while. What it provides for everyone is a place to relax, study, and wi-fi! Not only that but even an ATM at the corner, just in case a person might need some money. This area has a very relaxed mood to it for anybody looking to take a break from their day and maybe escape the work load that comes with being a college student. The Scoular Study Area is very important to kids in the sense that they need this area whenever they must study for all of their classes and not only that but there are many outlets to charge laptops, phones, and etc. with. When passing by this area one notices all of the people that are there mostly just relaxed looking to stop working for a decent change, and sometimes you’ll spot a random bum or two only because the campus is a public campus. All of that aside, it is a great area in a great part of Arizona State University. On average, thousands of people go in and out of the Memorial Union at Arizona State University every day (Hermann). If one thinks about this fact, one can realize how vital the placement of everything and convenience is to attract people into the building. Not only attract the people to the building, but to keep them coming back as well. This specific hall will always bring students back at least because it’s a great shortcut through everything that is air conditioned and contains places to eat as well. It definitely meets the criteria set forth for a place to attract all kinds of people.

#4- Food Court
This area could arguably be the biggest and most visited area would be the food court. Not only are there bathrooms placed there conveniently for anyone in need, but there are the following food locations: Starbucks Coffee, Qdoba Mexican Grill, The Fresh Fix, Extreme Pita, and Papa Johns Pizza. This area not only provides variety when it comes to food but as the other spots do as well, it provides a place to relax. As you can tell, it is a reoccurring theme to have places for people to just relax and put their work load on hold for a minor part of their respective days. It is specifically located on a level just a little higher than everyone else and one must go up stairs to go to so the view is much like looking over everyone while you are in this area. It is greatly ventilated and has many exits/entrances. Not only that, but the Lower Level of the Memorial Union is located right under where one can go to enjoy plenty of things like food as well, bowling, ping pong, pool, and etc. This spot is in the middle of everything in the Memorial Union and the Memorial Union is basically located in the middle of the Arizona State Tempe Campus which makes everything around easily accessible and just a short walk away. With that being said, all of these locations meet the criteria of being accessible by anyone and everyone, fulfilling the needs of students, and being great places to just relax and enjoy a break at or whatever one wishes to do.
